Special Events
On the last weekend in July, the festival of
Lughnasa is held, with a wide variety of entertainment available. The
highlight of this weekend is the ascent of Mt Brandon, with music and
poetry reading and a picnic at its peak with the world at your feet — never to
be forgotten. On the Sunday, the Cloghane Pattern is celebrated with the
festivities moving to Brandon on the Monday night. Sheep shearing, dog trials,
traditional meat pies, face painting, street entertainers, open air dancing, and
music and poetry readings are just some of what is on offer. Of course, pints of
Guinness and traditional sessions can be found in all the local pubs over the
weekend, and indeed, throughout the year.
The Brandon Regatta is held
on one of the last Sundays in August every year. This is a series of curragh
(boat) races with many different categories.

This is one of the most rewarding walks in Ireland. The route follows a series
of red & white metal poles. Because it is a popular walk there is a well
worn route. The initial section is tough as you gain height quickly, it later
levels off and finally riser sharply as the route zig zags thourght the eask.
For more information on the above walks and many more, please refer to Cloghane
/ Brandon Walking Guide. You will be able to find it in any shop in Cloghane
and Brandon.
Fishing - Some of the most rewarding (we hope!) fishing can be found in
the Cloghane/Brandon area. There are beautiful and challenging spots for
fly and anglers.
Cloghane Estuary
You can find peeler crabs and dig for clams, razorfish, cockle and lugworms at
low tide. You can try spinning with a small lure for bass and sea trout or by
using a sandeel and bubble float. You can catch thornbacks, flounders and mullet
as well.
Brandon Bay
Local boats can be hired at Brandon Bay and the Atlantic. There is an annual
shark fishing competition. You can find cod, haddock, hake, ling, john dory,
mackerel and salmon.

Storm Beaches of Brandon Bay (bass, rays, flounder and small turbot and the
occasional sea trout and mullet)
Lake & river Angling

salmon can be caught.
